It has a population of about 37,249,464 and is home to the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, the city's largest business district. San Leandro doesn't have as much to offer as its eastern neighbors, but its central location might be worth visiting. With its plains and hills overlooking the bay, it feels like a small town and is worth a visit as a visitor. Its eastern neighbor has some of the best views of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, but does not offer much in the way of amenities such as shopping, dining, shopping and entertainment.

The San Leandro Depot, built by Southern Pacific Railroad in 1898 and which replaced the original Central Pacific Railroad Depot in 1865, is the largest depot in California and one of the oldest in the United States. Officially opened in June 1898, the depot helped California grow as a major rail hub for the Northern Pacific Railway and the San Francisco Bay Area.

San Leandro is also home to the only BART station, BART station and BART station in the San Francisco Bay Area. Other highways include Interstate 238, which starts at Interstate 580 in San Jose, the first exit to SanLeandro, and Interstate 101 in Oakland.
California State Route 112 is Davis Street, which starts at Davis Avenue in San Leandro before turning into California State Route 61. Exit 580 to SanLeandro includes Doolittle Drive leading to Alameda; as you travel west, exit at Carolyn Street at 164th and head east on Highway 101. Exit 580 in San Le Palo Alto includes the BART Station and Oakland Amtrak Station, and the Interstate 580 exit in Oakland. San Leandro is accessible by BART bus, is located near the Amtrak stations in Oakland and has bus connections to the Bay Area cities, but does not have connections between parts of the city and other BART stations in the San Jose, Oakland or San Francisco areas.
